Tools and seeds for women / Herramientas y semillas para las mujeres

The economic collapse caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has created food shortages throughout the Amazon region. Mothers of the children we support asked us for help in creating or expanding home gardens. We responded by creating “Tools and Seeds”, a program that provides materials to grow food crops in the fertile soil of the Amazon basin. The Puerto Nariño Boarding School partners with us by providing classes in home gardening. Our goal is for the children and mothers to work together to improve food security during the pandemic and beyond.

Por esta pandemia, las comunidades han estado encerradas, para evitar contagios. Esto les ha disminuido la cantidad y variedad de alimentos. Les entregaremos herramientas y semillas a las madres de los niños que apoyamos con los kits escolares, para que puedan cultivar en sus chagras y hacer o mejorar sus huertas caseras. Ellas mismas nos dicen que necesitan. Parte del proyecto, es que los hijos las acompañen en la siembra. Algunos de ellos ya han recibido clases en el Internado de Puerto Nariño.
